Interesting Facts About Honey Bees
Honey bees are animals that make honey, one of the world's most valuable foods. Honey bees live by a certain rule and order. Every colony has a queen bee, and the queen bee has the characteristic of determining the behavior of that colony.
What Does the Queen Bee Do?
There are three types of bees in bee colonies. The queen bee, the male bee, and the worker bee. There is only one queen bee. Her main job is to lay eggs. Worker bees are female bees. The queen bee is larger than these females. Male bees only mate with the queen bee. Mating does not occur with other females. The queen bee ensures the integrity of the colony. They secrete a secretion called pheromone to ensure the functioning of the system in the hive. The bee colony understands that the queen bee has died when they do not smell the pheromone secretion. There are 50-100 male bees in the colony. The only job of male bees is to inseminate the queen bee. Male bees do not have stingers or suitable organs for collecting food. All tasks such as building honeycomb, producing royal jelly, collecting food, regulating hive temperature, cleaning, and defense are performed by worker bees, i.e., female bees.
