United Nations Approval Received

Changes in Street Lighting Have Occurred

The application, which may be the first in Turkey, was brought to life through the joint efforts of the Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality. In the project, presented to the United Nations as the “Sustainable Sakarya Climate Friendly Lighting Project” and approved, Light Emitting Diode products, known as “Light Emitting Diodes,” which will provide energy savings in public institutions, will be used. Through this project, energy savings will be minimized by using LED lighting, and carbon emissions will be reduced and attempted to be minimized. The Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, aiming for environmental awareness and wanting to be a pioneer, is starting the project with the lighting of the municipality-owned building. The Metropolitan Municipality, which wants to minimize climate change with LED lighting systems, will ensure its application to all public buildings after the pilot building is completed. In the new regulation published by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources; it is aimed to provide energy savings by using LED lighting fixtures in areas that fall under the scope of open areas, such as roads, streets, overpasses, underpasses, or square lighting. Among other changes, it has been stated that certain areas in parks or seating areas will be illuminated, and energy-saving lighting systems should be prioritized in the lighting of these areas.

Pioneering Public Buildings

The most important pioneer in public buildings in the service sector stepping into the LED sector is accepted to be the lighting of the FSM bridge. Government agencies, who believe that LED technology should become increasingly widespread today, have launched initiatives to lead the public. While important places are being illuminated across the country; at the local level, municipalities are working. By transitioning their service buildings and relevant public institution buildings to LED technology, municipalities are ensuring the public also switches to LED systems. Businesses, in particular, show great interest. With the increasing prevalence of lighting systems, it has become easier to prefer because it is at a lower level. It becomes easier to spread due to both its ergonomic design and the visual appeal it adds. Ankara is known to be among the cities pioneering this change. With interesting illuminations and the lighting of important places throughout the province, it has been adorned with an exquisite night view. China has served as an example for Ankara in this process.
